1Introduction

The new iSystem.open plug-in enables use of RENESAS E1 and E20 debuggers with iSYSTEM Embedded Software Development and Test Environment.

This document describes supported features and presents example of use.

In order to use the Renesas family of products in conjunction with winIDEA Renesas E-Series USB Driver must be installed (visit www.renesas.com).

2.1Prerequisites

winIDEA version  9.12.159 or newer

RENESAS E1 debug probe

Renesas E-Series USB driver installed

RH850 or RL78 target board

Have required software installed on your computer. Connect debugger to PC and target device. Power the emulator (if required) and target device.

2.2Using RENESAS Plug-In

2.2.1Selecting RENESAS Plug-In

You can select plug-in before creating new project (workspace) or you can use existing workspace and then select Renesas plug-in.

2.2.2Renesas Menu

After selecting Renesas Development Tools Plug-In a new menu will be available in winIDEA toolbar.

2.2.3Options

Renesas Options Window

In this window user can set various connection options, interface speeds, etc. Target device file and oscillator frequency must be set as per target you are connecting.

EMULATOR

Emulator specific options.


Connection Type

Type of connection used to connect emulator to host PC. Only USB connection is available.


VDD Mode

With VDD Mode you can select how the target board will be powered.

VDD NORMAL – Target is powered from power supply.

VDD 5V OUT – Target is powered by E1 debugger with 5V DC.

VDD 3V OUT – Target is powered by E1 debugger with 3V DC.


CPU

CPU selection and general options.


CPU Family

Select the family of the target CPU. RH850 and RL78 family currently available. Make sure that selection matches the target device.


Reset Type

Only NORMAL reset type currently available.


Device

Specific target device file must be selected here. Make sure that selection matches the target device.


Pin Masking

Select individual option to mask that pin on the target device.


Note: Not all devices support masking of all pins. Check device manual.


RH850

RH850 specific options that apply when Renesas RH850 is selected as CPU Family.


Debug interface

Communication method with target MCU. LPD 4-wire and LPD 1-Wire can be selected.


LPD Mode Debug Speed
LPD clock frequency in kHz (4-pin mode) or baud rate in kbps (1-pin mode). Set to 0 for default values.


Oscillator Frequency

Frequency of the input oscillator as the main clock (EXTAL/XTAL) in kHz.


PLL Multiplication Ratio

PLL multiplication ratio used to increase target clock. Set to 0 for no multiplication.


RH850 Unlock ID option


Unlock ID

Enter correct ID to gain debug access on RH850.

Use these ID settings after flash erase (default values):

Byte 0   = 0xFF                

Byte 1   = 0xFF        

Byte 15 = 0xFF


Note: If Unlock ID for RH850 device is not known, please use Flash Development Toolkit available on Renesas website to erase flash.


RL78

RL78 specific options that apply when Renesas RL78 is selected as CPU Family.

Debug interface

Communication method with target MCU. Only TOOL0 1-Wire can be selected.



Erase Flash Before Next ID Check

Selecting this option will erase flash before next ID check. After the erase this flag will be automatically reset.

This flag can be used when currently programmed Unlock ID code is not known.


Note: Selecting this option will erase program application from flash on next connection to target.


Unlock ID

Enter correct ID to gain flash read access on RL78 .

Use these ID settings after flash erase (default values):

Byte 0   = 0x00                

Byte 1   = 0xFF        

Byte 2   = 0xFF

Byte 15 = 0xFF


Note: On RL78 devices if current device Unlock ID code is not known, use option “Erase Flash Before Next ID Check”.


2.2.4Maintenance

Provides useful information when troubleshooting debug chain issues. Some information can only be acquired after connection to target device is established.

Note: Actual LPD speed used by emulator can be different than what is set under Renesas -> Options -> LPD Mode Debug Speed.


E1E20 Self Check Program

Utility can be used to run self-check test of the connected E1/E20 emulator. See E1/E20 Emulator User’s Manual available on www.renesas.com.


Note: Utility can only be started when winIDEA is disconnected from emulator. To disconnect use Tools ->Disconnect isystem.open Plug-In” or with keyboard shortcuts ALT+T followed by ALT+D.
